Derby Design

I participated in Pinewood Derby awhile back. I originally planned to ask my Dad to help me just like the old days but we weren’t able to get together in time so I just made my own car(s). I have fond memories of the pinewood derby, mainly of my Dad making the car for me while I waited around for the exciting part like painting the car and the actual race, which we won 2 years in a row. Anyway I made two cars, one normal one for my son to race and one car that was a little different. I clipped out images from old church magazines and made a little mod podge collage on the wood brick. Anyway it was a lot of fun, peep the photos.

ODANA Poster

Well, we are 67 days into the Obama administration and he still hasn’t paid off my mortgage and credit cards…joking of course but the jury is still out on whether this guy can do the job well. I have my opinions but will only say that politicians in general disappoint me.

Whether you love Obama or hate him you have to admit that his campaign was brilliant, there were viral videos, posters, a nicely designed logo, celebrity endorsements, and even an iPhone application.

The posters created by Shepard Fairey (seen below) created quite the buzz and I think contributed to his overall image. Anyway, I stumbled upon a tutorial that demonstrates how to create such a poster and I tested it out using a photo of my wife.

On a side note…

Previous to his Obama posters, Fairey was most well know for his Obey Giant street poster but has come under fire recently and even been accused of plagiarism. Peep this interesting article.

Defaced

As a kid I remember drawing a top hat on Abe Lincoln’s head on the five dollar bill and later being upset when I was told that stores would most likely not accept my “defaced” money. Anyway I was reminded of that story when I stumbled upon these hilarious drawings on various types of currency. Check it.

The Road Home

During the holiday season I was asked to create some posters for a little charity our company was donating to, sort of like a sub for Santa. The purpose of the posters was to inform coworkers of the charity and how to donate. Anyway I had a lot of fun working on this project and it’s a legit organization to contribute to, take a peek.
