Uniform Design Refresh

After seven seasons of only subtle tweaks to the core uniforms, the time was ripe for a comprehensive brand refresh. Reflecting on the iconic period from 1994 to 2004, when the Sacramento Kings donned white home uniforms, black road uniforms, and a purple/black split with checker for an alternate uniform, the 2023-24 season marks a bold return to tradition. We reintroduced black as the primary color, complemented by a heavy use of purple highlights, echoing the original palette shift in '94 and revitalizing the team's visual identity.

Purple Shortage

To unveil the new Nike Icon and Association Edition uniforms for the 2023-24 season, the "Purple Shortage" commercial featured the team's star players and humorously explained that the lack of purple in the new uniforms was because the Kings' Purple Beam, which lights up to celebrate victories, had consumed all the available purple in its hunger for victory.

Where Pasts Meets Future

This modernization of the '94 checker uniform introduces a sophisticated purple-to-black gradient, complemented by a new wordmark that includes the full team name. A creative update to the side checker panels adds a contemporary twist, merging historical elements with a modern aesthetic. This design exemplifies a dynamic blend of tradition and innovation.

Tradition Reinvented

The script logo has been a foundational element of the franchise from the very start. Notably absent in the 2016 rebrand, I recognized the importance of reintroducing this iconic piece in the 2023 uniform refresh. It was essential to blend tradition with modernity, ensuring the script logo once again played a pivotal role in defining the Kings team's identity.
